In the last lesson, we learned the importance of taking time to daily listen to God. It is not enough to hear what God says; we must apply it. God speaks through His Word to teach us what is best for us because He loves us and wants what is good for us (living the way He designed life). Because God loves us, the Spirit teaches us and gives us the strength to overcome sin.  If we love God, we respond in obedience to God’s Word and trust that God will help us. As we obey God, we can ask for everything we need.

Share the most significant thing God has said to you in the past week and how you applied it to your life. Who did you share the last lesson with?

What will we do If we love God and what will God do for us?

What will we to do if we love Jesus? John 14:15, 21-23

What will God do for us when we walk in obedience? John 14:12-15

God wants to help us when we pray. You will receive mercy and find grace in your time of need. Hebrews 4:16

Who lives in us to help us obey? John 14:16-20, Galatians 5:13,16-17,22-23

How do we abide (remain in the Spirit) and bear much fruit? John 15:1-17

  1.  v. 7
  2.  v. 10
  3.  v. 12

When we are not hearing God or seeing God answer prayer, what should we check?  1 John 3:21-23

Do you know how to apply the gospel to your daily life?

What if we disobey? How do we recover when we do not obey God?

The Spirit is quenched by sin and sin blocks our fellowship with God. “If I cherish sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened.” (Psalms 66:18) God is leading us to love and serve other people, but when we chose to live selfishly, we grieve the Spirit in us and block the Spirit from living through us.

When we sin, we need to immediately apply the gospel to our daily life.

  1. Admit (Confess) your sin has broken your fellowship with God and relationships with others. Don’t hide it; be honest. 1 John 1:9

  2. Believe you are already forgiven. You are loved by God based on what He did for you on the cross to remove all your sin, not based on your performance (how well you are doing). Romans 8:1, Colossians 1:22

  3. Choose to obey God; you are free to repent and start obeying. Gal 5:16-17, Rom 6:18 You can overcome temptation. Memorize 1 Corinthians 10:13

  4. Ask the Spirit to help and give you strength to obey. The Holy Spirit has been given to help you do everything God says. Galatians 5:13, 22-23.

Each time we meet, we will set GROW GOALS to apply God’s Word. Is there an area of obedience that God showed you in the last week of reading His Word?

Pray and ask God who He wants you to share with this week about how to abide in the Lord. Each week we will set GO GOALS of who we will plan to go tell (train) what we have learned.
